AFED Vice Chairman visits Kampala Jamaat Leadership

On Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th September 2025, the Vice Chairman of the Africa Federation (AFED), Alhaj Murtaza bhai Somji, visited the Kampala Jamaat. The two-day program included meetings, site visits, and discussions with Jamaat leadership and members.
Murtaza bhai met with a 17-member delegation comprising the Managing Committee, Trust Board, and Councillors. Nine members of the Ladies Managing Committee (LMC) also attended the sessions, providing a broad representation of leadership voices from across the Jamaat.

Murtaza bhai delivered a presentation and held discussions on areas of cooperation and alignment between AFED and the Jamaat, focusing on strengthening ties and working together for the community’s wellbeing. The dialogue also touched on how AFED can support Kampala Jamaat, with particular focus on building sustainability and strengthening long-term partnerships.

He toured all Jamaat properties and visited the community’s nursery, primary, and secondary schools. He also visited the Bilal offices and Al Mustafa University, meeting faculty and students and noting their role in education and tabligh. The visit provided valuable insights into the growth of community institutions in Kampala and the challenges they face.
During the visit, the Murtaza bhai also toured key community assets, which included The Mall and The Arcade, two high-yield malls generating strong revenue streams for the Jamaat, a property identified as a potential residential development, and another earmarked for a future joint venture commercial project.

On Thursday evening, the Vice Chairman addressed the community after the weekly program. He spoke about AFED’s support for every constituent Jamaat, the importance of Khums contributions, the impact of Solidarity Day, and the shared responsibility of uplifting the community. He reminded members that strong participation in these initiatives helps ensure sustainability of services across the region.

Murtaza bhai also met with members of the AFED Women’s Board in Kampala to discuss collaboration, women’s empowerment, and participation in community development. The meeting highlighted the importance of creating more platforms for women to engage actively in leadership and community projects.
Murtaza bhai thanked the Kampala Jamaat for the warm reception, hospitality, and constructive engagement. He expressed confidence that the partnership between AFED and Kampala Jamaat will continue to grow stronger and deliver tangible benefits to the community.
