Progress of Al Ghadeer Bilal Centre – Tanga

On 13 July 2026, a team from Dar es Salaam travelled to Tanga to conduct the third site inspection of the Al Ghadeer Bilal Centre project. The delegation comprised Architect Elmon Mwafenga, Quantity Surveyor Joseph Charles, Structural Engineer Hussain Janoowalla, AFED Housing Development Board Chairman Alhaj Akil Hirji, Project Coordinator Mohamed Moledina, and Contractor Mustafa Janoowalla. 

Alhamdulillah, the project is progressing at a good pace. Since site mobilization commenced in January 2026, construction has now reached the six-month milestone, with significant progress achieved.

A major milestone was recently completed with the successful casting of the fourth-floor slab of the eight-storey building. The structural framework has now reached the fourth-floor slab level. In parallel, blockwork has commenced on the ground floor, while the layout and setting of the classrooms on the first floor are progressing. 

During the site inspection, the project team also reviewed the proposed layout of the main hall and classrooms. Various improvements were discussed to enhance functionality, optimize the use of space, improve circulation, and ensure that the facilities effectively meet the present and future educational and community requirements. The architect was requested to incorporate the agreed recommendations into the revised drawings following the necessary technical review before implementation. 

A comprehensive site meeting was held with all key project stakeholders, including the client, consultants, and contractor, to review the overall progress of the project. The meeting included a detailed inspection of the completed works, an assessment of progress against the approved construction programme, a review of quality standards, discussion of construction challenges, evaluation of health and safety compliance, and an assessment of the manpower, equipment, and resources available on site. 

The team also reviewed the upcoming phases of the project, including masonry works, mechanical and electrical installations, and the finishing stage, to ensure proper coordination, timely procurement of materials, and efficient sequencing of activities. Action points were agreed upon to maintain construction quality, improve productivity where necessary, and ensure that the project continues to progress without unnecessary delays. 

The meeting concluded that the project is progressing in accordance with the approved construction schedule. The quality of workmanship was found to be satisfactory, and the contractor continues to demonstrate good performance and commitment to the successful delivery of the project. Overall progress remains encouraging, and the project is on track to achieve its planned milestones.
