Press Release - AFED Vice Chairman visits Tanga and Mombasa Jamaats

During a recent road trip in October 2025, Alhaj Murtaza Somji, Vice Chairman of the Africa Federation (AFED), undertook official visits to both the Tanga and Mombasa Jamaats.


On 12th October 2025, Alhaj Murtaza Somji visited the Tanga Jamaat, where he was warmly received with exceptional hospitality. He met with seven Managing Committee members and four members of the Ladies Managing Committee, conducted a presentation, and held roundtable discussions focusing on various areas of cooperation and alignment.

He also visited the Madressa and discussed the Jamaat’s request for housing, for which the foundation has already been laid. Later, he addressed the community, emphasizing AFED’s role in the wellbeing and support of each Constituent Jamaat, as well as the importance of khums obligations, solidarity day contributions, education and economic empowerment, and access to health screenings and medical insurance.


Alhamdulillah, though small in number, the Tanga community comprises committed and dedicated members from both the ladies’ and gents’ sections. The Jamaat expressed their deep appreciation for his visit and graciously hosted a dinner in his honour, attended by the entire community.

Murtaza bhai then travelled by road to Mombasa for an official visit on 13th and 14th October 2025, where he was once again received with warm hospitality and engaging discussions. He met with ten Managing Committee members, five Trustees, and two Ladies Managing Committee members, and delivered a presentation followed by deliberations on areas of cooperation and alignment.

Key topics included future developments (with the foundation ready), presentations by the Chairlady and other Board members, sharing of resources through visiting Aalims and educational institutions, as well as discussions on AFEDLife and AFEDSave insurance schemes, and education and economic loan repayments.

He also visited the Jaffery School and JIPS College, and attended the first-ever inter-schools Qur’an competition held at the Mulla Asger Memorial Hall.

The visit concluded with a community dinner held in his honour, attended by approximately 80 leaders and seniors, both ladies and gents, during which he reiterated AFED’s continued commitment to supporting all Constituent Jamaats through welfare, education, health, and economic initiatives.


The Mombasa Jamaat through Chairman Alhaj Mohamedraza Rashid expressed their deep appreciation for his visit.

Overall, the visits to both Tanga and Mombasa Jamaats by Alhaj Murtaza Somji, Vice Chairman of the Africa Federation (AFED), were deeply engaging and productive, strengthening cooperation, fostering alignment, and reinforcing the shared vision for community growth and wellbeing.

During the visit to Mombasa, Murtaza bhai had a fruitful meeting with the Chairman of the Central Bilal Board Alhaj Mohamed bhai Hemani where they discussed on the need of restructuring and the dynamics surrounding the Bilal portfolio.
