Obituary - Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq Fayyadh

Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq Fayyadh



The Africa Federation Secretariat received with deep sadness the news of the demise of Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq Fayyadh, who passed away in Najaf, Iraq, on Thursday, 4th June 2026 (18th Dhul Hijjah 1447 A.H.). 


Born in 1930 in Jaghori, Afghanistan, he devoted his life to the pursuit, preservation, and dissemination of Islamic knowledge. His family migrated to Najaf when he was ten years old, providing him with the opportunity to study under some of the most eminent scholars of his time, including Grand Ayatollah Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei. He later rose to become one of the four Maraji’ of the Hawza Seminary in Najaf, Iraq. 


During his lifetime, he authored numerous scholarly works, including:

The demise of an eminent Ayatollah of such stature is a profound loss to the Shia community across the globe. We pray to Allah (SWT) to elevate his rank and grant him the honour of being in the closest proximity to the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.), where he may continuously receive the mercy and grace of Allah (SWT).


On this sad occasion, we extend our heartfelt condolences to our Living Imam, Imam al-Mahdi (ATFS), the Maraji’-e-Taqlid, the Ulema-e-Deen, his family, students, followers, and the Shia community worldwide on this immense and irreplaceable loss of a distinguished scholar.


We request all Mumineen to recite Surah al-Fatihah for Marhum Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq Fayyadh and all the Marhumeen.
