AFED Vice Chairman deepens connection with Arusha and Moshi Jamaats
On 19th October, Alhaj Murtaza Somji, Vice Chairman of the Africa Federation (AFED), visited Moshi and Arusha Jamaats as part of AFED’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with Jamaats across the region. The purpose of these visits is to learn about the notable initiatives being undertaken and to engage in discussions on the challenges faced by the Jamaats.
Highlights from Moshi Jamaat Visit
During his visit to Moshi, Alhaj Murtaza Somji was warmly received by six members of the Managing Committee (MC) and the resident Aalim. Discussions centred on opportunities for local youth to pursue studies in medicine and related fields.

Murtaza bhai toured the Jaffery Charitable Medical Polyclinic, where he saw the facilities of the clinic and its vital role in enhancing community healthcare.


He also visited the Hawza, where 30 muballigh are receiving religious and vocational training, further highlighting the Jamaat’s commitment to education.

Murtaza bhai commended Moshi Jamaat Chairman Alhaj Muhammed Ladak and his small but devoted team for their commitment and unity, fostering a sense of community.
Highlights from Arusha Jamaat Visit
On 20th October 2025, Murtaza bhai met the Arusha Jamaat Chairman Alhaj Fayaz Dhirani, his Managing Committee Members, Trust Board members, Past Jamaat Chairman Gulamhussein bhai Mukhtar, and representatives from the Ladies’ Managing Committee (LMC) which included the AFED Nominated Councillor Sis. Mumtaz Ladak who is also the Chairlady of the Arusha Jamaat Ladies Managing Committee.

The discussions included the recently completed Al Mahdi project, which stands as a notable achievement for Arusha.
A key highlight of the visit was the tour of the Jaffery Primary and Secondary Schools. Murtaza bhai expressed admiration for the Special Education Needs (SENS) School, which is led by Sis. Swaleha Mohamedali. The school, which caters to 64 students who are differently abled, nurturing confidence through compassion.


In his remarks, Alhaj Murtaza Somji praised Sis Swaleha’s leadership and the compassion shown by her team, describing the experience as “heartwarming and inspiring.”
The Vice Chairman’s visit was rounded up by a stop at the Jaffery Clinic in Arusha, where he viewed the facilities and services being offered.
