The Courageous Journey of Sis. Naseem Panjwani

The Central Health Board (CHB) of the Africa Federation is honored to share the inspiring story of Sis. Naseem Panjwani, a remarkable woman who has faced and survived cancer twice, and continues to use her experience to bring hope, strength, and awareness to others.

Naseem bai’s journey began in 2001 when, at just 37 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Having lost her mother and aunt to the same disease, she had a strong instinct that something was wrong when she discovered a small lump. Despite being dismissed by doctors due to her age, Naseem bai persisted until her concerns were finally taken seriously and her diagnosis confirmed.

The news was devastating. She recalls the fear, anger, and disbelief, worried most about her young children and what the future would hold. With the unwavering support and love of her family, community, and deep faith, she found the courage and strength to fight back. Through chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and moments of great difficulty, she held onto hope.

Years later, Naseem bai faced yet another challenge, this time, a diagnosis of lung cancer. Despite the heartbreak, her spirit remained unshaken. Instead of letting the illness define her, she chose to transform her pain into purpose, dedicating her life to supporting and uplifting others on their own cancer journeys.

Naseem bai has worked with Macmillan for over 15 years as a facilitator for cancer patients. She also serves as a trainer and assessor for the H.O.P.E. course, holds counselling qualifications, and is a proud Cancer Voice, using her story to raise awareness and provide strength to others.

She is an active member of the Hujjat Cancer Support Group within the community and currently serves as a facilitator for “Breast Cancer Now”, a two-week course designed for primary cancer patients. Through her work, Naseem bai has reached countless individuals, advocating for early detection, open conversations, and emotional support for patients and their families.

Faith gave me strength, family gave me courage, and my experience gave me purpose,” says Naseem bai. Her message is clear: listen to your body, don’t delay medical check-ups, and believe that recovery is possible.

Her journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of sharing one’s story to uplift others.
