Ayatollah Sayyid Musa Shubayri Zanjani
The Africa Federation Secretariat received with deep sadness the news of the demise of Ayatollah Sayyid Musa Shubayri Zanjani, who passed away in Qum, Iran, on Monday 21st September 2026 (9th Rabi-ul-Aakhar 1448 A.H.).
Born in 1928 in Qum, Iran Ayatullah Zanjani was amongst the seven jurists qualified for the marja’iyya following the death of Mohammad Ali Araki in 1994 and was amongst the last group of scholars to have studied under Ayatollah Sayyid Husayn Burujirdi.
He grew up and studied within a seminary atmosphere from an early age and was a student of various eminent scholars and spent two years in Najaf under Sayyid Abd al-Hadi al-Shirazi, Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakim, and Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei.
He authored various books on Islamic jurisprudence and principles hadith, rijal, and dirayah.
The World Federation leadership made regular visits to the Marja and were in constant touch with him for guidance whenever needed which he readily provided with utmost care for the Community.
The demise of an eminent Ayatollah of such stature is a profound loss to the Shia community across the globe. We pray to Allah (SWT) to elevate his rank and grant him the honour of being in the closest proximity to the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.), where he may continuously receive the mercy and grace of Allah (SWT).
On this sad occasion, we extend our heartfelt condolences to our Living Imam, Imam al-Mahdi (ATFS), the Maraji’-e-Taqlid, the Ulema-e-Deen, his children, students, followers, and the Shia community worldwide on this immense and irreplaceable loss of a distinguished scholar.
We request all Mumineen to recite Surah al-Fatihah for Marhum Sayyid Musa Shubayri Zanjani and all the Marhumeen.
