CHB of Africa Federation donates Oxygen Concentrators to Ocean Road Cancer Institute

The Africa Federation Central Health Board (CHB) in demonstrating its strong commitment to healthcare development donated five (5) oxygen concentrators to the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) on Tuesday 15th April 2025.

The handover Ceremony was held at the hospital premises and led by Br. Mohamedkazim Sheriff, Chief Operating Officer of the Africa Federation along with Br. Akhtar Khakoo and Sr. Tayyaba Ahmed, Administrative Secretary of the Central Health Board. The machines were received on behalf of ORCI by Sr. Mary Haule, the Head of Nursing.

During the handover, Akhtar bhai Khakoo explained the use and benefit of the concentrators to the ORCI team, he also mentioned that these devices are designed to be both efficient and user-friendly, especially in busy hospital settings.

Sister Mary Haule, Head of Nursing, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Africa Federation and shared how this donation will make a real difference, she said:

“We see many patients daily who require constant oxygen support. This donation will help save lives and having access to a reliable, advanced system is a blessing.”

Dr. Diwani Msemo, Chief Executive Officer of ORCI, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the generous donation. He noted that the hospital has, at times, faced challenges when the demand for oxygen cylinders exceeds availability, causing delays in providing care to patients in need, he commented:

“We are truly honoured to receive these advanced oxygen concentrators,” he said. “They will help ease the pressure on our existing resources and ensure that more patients can receive oxygen support without unnecessary delays. This will make a meaningful difference in our day-to-day operations and, most importantly, in the lives of our patients.”

At the conclusion of the handover, a thank you letter was presented to Br. Mohamedkazim Sheriff, COO of Africa Federation as a token of appreciation from the ORCI management for the kind and impactful contribution.

This donation is part of CHB’s ongoing mission to enhance community healthcare, build capacity in public institutions, and work hand-in-hand with medical professionals to improve lives.

The Central Health Board remains committed to building bridges of support, ensuring that access to essential health resources is not a privilege, but a right for all.
