On October 19, 2024, Africa Federation’s Office Bearers gathered at AFED Towers in Dar es Salaam for a pivotal workshop titled "Crafting Our Future" led by Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan from the Capacity Building Board (CBG). This engaging session focused on articulating a clear vision and mission that would inspire and direct Africa Federation’s journey forward.
Through a collaborative spirit, the AFED Office Bearers delved into the essence of vision and mission—defining where the Federation aspires to go and clarifying its purpose derived from the Aims and Objectives of Afed during its inception. This dynamic setting fostered rich discussions around core values such as unity, social responsibility, and holistic growth for the members SWOT Analysis and strategic plan, laying a foundation for the Federation's continued development. Emphasis was placed on strengthening and uniting communities across Africa under the guiding principles of Islamic values and the teachings of Ahlulbayt (AS).
The Office Bearers left with a renewed sense of dedication and clarity, aligned to lead the Federation with a clear roadmap towards a future rooted in faith, resilience, and community service. This session proved invaluable in guiding the leaders of Africa Federation envision a cohesive and impactful path forward, embracing their role in shaping strong, value-driven communities across the region.
Strategic Planning Session with AFED Office Bearers and Board Members
The Africa Federation (AFED) held a dynamic strategic planning session at AFED Tower in Dar es Salaam on October 20, 2024 after the leadership workshop held on October 19, so as to align the boards on the vision and mission of AFED.
Facilitated by Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan and Mumtazbai Ladak, the event brought together AFED Office Bearers, Board Chairs and Members and Administrative Staff in a collaborative environment to brainstorm and come up with a clear strategy towards achieving AFED’s mission and vision. This critical session, designed to align leaders on key priorities, highlighted the importance of strategic direction to advance the organization’s purpose of fostering spirituality, unity, and service to the community.
Opening with an engaging icebreaker, participants shared their perspectives on strategic priorities vital for AFED’s progress. A comprehensive agenda then guided the session, encompassing the fundamentals of strategic planning, a reflective review of AFED’s vision and mission, and practical exercises in translating these into measurable goals.
A highlight of the workshop was the SWOT analysis, where each board identified their strengths, weaknesses (challenges), opportunities, and threats, setting a clear groundwork for informed Strategic Plan for each Board on mission to Vision Actualization.
Towards the end of the workshop, a dynamic team-building activity involving balloons and yarn brought participants together in a fun yet meaningful way to cement five stages for the team: - Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning. This exercise required participants to strategize on the best ways to balance and secure the balloons, reinforcing the importance of Leadership, Communication, Adaptability, Bigger Picture, Sacrifice, and Win-Win solution for performing teams. Through trial and error, participants developed effective techniques to stabilize their structures, highlighting the role of collective effort and innovative thinking in achieving shared goals.
The session culminated in the creation of actionable plans that will guide AFED’s mission to support its constituent Jamaats in spiritual, educational, and social endeavors. With actionable timelines and responsibilities outlined, AFED’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to steering a brighter, unified future for the community.
The collaborative approach taken during this session underscored the dedication of AFED’s Office Bearers and Board Members to their role as supporters of faith and service, setting a positive trajectory for Africa Federation’s future.
