AFED Chairman Alhaj Amine Nassor Pays Maiden Official Visit to Maputo Jamaat

The Chairman of the Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaats of Africa (AFED), Alhaj Amine Nassor, paid his maiden official visit to Maputo Jamaat on 5th and 6th May 2026. He was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Alhaj Murtaza Somji, and Nominated Councillor and AFED Ambassador, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan.
Upon their arrival in Maputo on Tuesday, 5th May, the AFED delegation was warmly received at the airport by the Chairman of Jaffery Islamic Centre (JIC), Alhaj Syed Iftikhar Ali Taha, together with members of the Jamaat’s Managing Committee.

Jaffery Islamic Centre organized a well-attended community programme following Dua-e-Tawassul at the Centre. The gathering brought together community members of all ages, including ladies, providing an excellent opportunity for engagement and interaction with the AFED leadership.

Addressing the congregation, Alhaj Amine Nassor conveyed greetings from Africa Federation and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to supporting its member Jamaats in their religious, educational, and social development initiatives. He emphasized the importance of unity, active community participation, youth development, and strengthening institutions that serve the community.

In his welcome address, the Jamaat Chairman, Alhaj Syed Iftikhar Ali Taha, expressed his sincere gratitude to AFED for its continued guidance and support. He highlighted the significant growth of the Madressah over the years and appealed for continued assistance in further enhancing its educational programmes and resources.
The Jamaat has presented a plan for improvements and extension of the current facilities which are old and not sufficient to take care of the needs of the Jamaat. The Chairman requested the President of the Jamaat and his MC members to present their proposals with cost factors which will be considered by AFED. The Chairman and his delegation had the opportunity to view the current facilities which has limited amenities to cater for the Jamaat and the Madressah needs. Funds shall be required to carry out these modifications and extension, it was proposed for joint efforts to cater for these improvements.
JIC (Jamaat) in Maputo was established in December 1999. Initially, the Centre was on rental and in 2012, with the support of AFED, JIC in Maputo acquired the Centre for ownership.
The evening programme was followed by Nyaz and an open discussion session, during which community members had the opportunity to engage directly with the AFED delegation. Several important matters relating to the future development of the Jamaat were discussed, including educational initiatives, Madressah curriculum development, teacher training, community engagement, and long-term sustainability. Responding to the various concerns and suggestions raised, Alhaj Amine Nassor assured the Jamaat of AFED’s full support and commitment in helping achieve its objectives.


On Wednesday, 6th May, the delegation continued its visit with tours of several important community institutions. They first visited the community cemetery and Bilal Imam Hussain (A.S.) Centre, where they were briefed on the activities and services being provided to the wider community. This was followed by a joint meeting between the AFED delegation and the Maputo Jamaat Managing Committee, during which various administrative, educational, and developmental matters were reviewed and discussed.
The delegation also visited Husseini Centre (HC) in Maputo town, which is being run by Alhaj Yunus Merali of Maputo. Here they joined the community members for evening prayers, majlis program, nyaz and interacted with members present at the Centre.



The visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between AFED and the Maputo Jamaat, while fostering meaningful dialogue on matters of mutual interest and future growth. It also enabled the AFED leadership to gain a firsthand understanding of the Jamaat’s achievements, challenges, and aspirations.
A separate Newswire will be issued on the visit to Bilal in Maputo to enlighten the community on the great tabligh work being carried out by the members of Maputo Jamaat, and especially Alhaj Gulam Abbas Alwani, who is the Chairman of Bilal Imam Hussain (‘A) Centre in Maputo.
