AASIF KARIM - FCIArb APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF ALTERNATE DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMMITTEE
We are pleased to announce that the Chairman of the Africa Federation has appointed Alhaj Aasif Karim – FCIArb of Nairobi as the Chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (ADRC) of the Africa Federation.
Aasif Bhai is an alumnus of Howard University, Washington, D.C., USA, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and an accredited mediator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom and Kenya.
Aasif Bhai served as the Chairman of the Nairobi Jamaat from 2009 to 2013 and previously served as Chairman of the Africa Federation's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee for the term 2022–2025. In recognition of his distinguished service and contribution to the community, he was awarded the Africa Federation Abbasi Medal in December 2013.
A renowned former international sportsman in tennis and cricket, Aasif Bhai represented Kenya for 23 years. His cricket career included participation in three Cricket World Cups and four Associate Trophies, while he also represented Kenya in Davis Cup Tennis. He was declared AFED Sportsman of the Year in 1994 and was awarded the Abul Fazal Trophy.
Aasif Bhai continues to actively promote sports in the region. He has published the sports magazine Sports Monthly for the past 25 years and is associated with the Kenya International Sports Film Festival (KISFF).
He also participated in the Over-60 Cricket World Cup in India in 2024 and the Africa Cup in Zimbabwe in 2025, where he represented the Rest of the World Team.
Professionally, Aasif Bhai is a practising Alternative Dispute Resolution professional and a prominent businessman. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Safinaz Group of Companies, which comprises:

Aasif Bhai is also a member of the panels of several leading arbitration and mediation institutions, including:
Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK and Kenya)
Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA)
Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC)
Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre (TRAC), Islamic Republic of Iran.
In 2016, Aasif Bhai was among the nominees selected by the Kenyan Judiciary, through the Chief Justice, to serve as a mediator under the Court Annexed Mediation Programme, dealing with commercial and family disputes.
In 2026, he was further elevated and appointed as a Mediator in the Court of Appeal of Kenya, in recognition of his extensive experience and expertise in alternative dispute resolution.
As Chairman of the ADRC, Aasif Bhai will appoint the members of the Committee within the next 60 days, following which the Committee will commence its work in accordance with the Terms of Reference established for the Committee.
