On 7th December, 2024, the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMMT) held a memorable graduation ceremony at the Mzee Hassanali & Mama Fatemabai Dewji Islamic Centre in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, celebrating the successful completion of a three-year program in Islamic Theology and Arabic Language by 41 girls from Hawzatu Sayyida Maasoumah (SA) and 10 boys from Hawzatu Ahlul-Bayt (AS).


The event was graced by the presence of notable personalities, including Alhaj Aunali Khalfan, the Vice Chairman of AFED, who was the Chief Guest of the Graduation Ceremony. Other distinguished guests included Alhaj Hussein Karim, the Chairman of BMMT; Samahat Sheikh Musabah Mapinda, BMMT Head of Tableegh; and Alhaj Aziz Hussein Rajani, the Chairman of BMMT Coast & South zone. Also, in attendance were Alhaj Haji Saheeb, the Director of WIPAHS, along with teachers, staff and students from both hawzats.

The ceremony focused mainly on the importance of maintaining good etiquettes and high moral standards both within and outside the hawza, with a focus on utilizing the knowledge gained for the betterment of society, regardless of religious or sectarian beliefs.


The program started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an followed by Hadithul Kisaa by students from Hawza. This followed by a welcome speech delivered by Muddir of Hawzat Bilal, Sheikh Muhammad Yusuph. The occasion was marked with Qaswida by the students. The speech by Samahat Sheikh Musabah explained the importance of understanding of the religion and the Madha’ab of Ahlul Bayt (AS), he relayed the message of Imam Jaf’ar Al Sadiq (AS) as they were of fundamental importance for the followers of Ahlul Bayt (AS).


BMMT Chairman, Alhaj Hussein Karim cautioned the graduating students to safeguard themselves against the vices which are now rampant, he also explained that studying for 3 years is not enough as there is no end to seeking knowledge, he underscored the importance of Hijab and not to get attracted with the worldly affairs, rather become conscious of the religion and good etiquettes. Alhaj Hussein Karim emphasized in keeping with Islamic and Family values.


Two messages (Risalah) from the graduating students, from the girls and boys were read out eloquently, they then handed over to Alhaj Hussein Karim and Samahat Sheikh Musabah.


The Guest of Honour, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan delivered a message from Africa Federation Chairman, Alhaj Amine Nassor and congratulated the graduating students, he spoke on the importance of secular and religious education, he said, one compliments the other. He assured BMMT of Africa Federation’s support, and expressed his satisfaction on the progress of BMMT, and the Hawzats.

Alhaj Aziz Rajani spoke on the importance of maintaining high level of discipline and for the students to concentrate in their studies and not waste time in matters which adds no value to oneself or to the others. He challenged the students to focus on learning and take advantage of the Hawzats where there are learned and respected Scholars and Teachers who pur their time and energy to teach the students, the ultimate goals are for the students to succeed academically and to stand on their own feet. He also cautioned the girls students specially to take care of Hijab and also to be steadfast in maintaining good behaviors.

The occasion also marked the annual day celebrations for both Hawzats, where top-performing students were recognized and awarded prizes. Teachers from both Hawzats were appreciated with gifts such as rice pressure cookers, and special prizes were awarded to the best and most hardworking teachers from each hawza.


BMMT congratulates all the graduating students on their outstanding achievements and wishes them success in their future endeavors. There are presently 98 girls studying at the Centre, Bilal also provides them with boarding, meals, uniform, books etc.


BMMT management extends their sincere appreciation to Muallims and Muallimahs, teachers, staff and volunteers for their dedicated services and for improving the standards of academic performance, with good understanding of the Holy Qur’an, its meanings and also the Arabic language being taught at the Centre.


We wish to thank Africa Federation Office Bearers for their continuous support to Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania, their moral and financial support has been of great encouragement to Bilal in its mission of promoting the religion of Islam and the Madh’ab of Ahlul Bayt (AS) among the indigenous believers and followers of Ahlul Bayt (AS). The Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMMT), through its centres across the country organized Majlis programs to commemorate the Shahada of Bibi Fatima (a.s), the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w). This significant event took place on the 3rd of Jamadul Thani, marking the anniversary of her death in 11 A.H.


The Majlis aimed to achieve several important objectives:

  • Raising Awareness: To inform the community about the tragic events surrounding the death of Bibi Fatima (a.s) and the factors leading to her passing.

  • Preserving History: The event sought to keep alive the history of this revered figure, ensuring that future generations learn about her life and the struggles she endured.

  • Highlighting Her Role: The Majlis also provided an opportunity to highlight the exemplary characters of Lady Fatima (a.s), her pivotal role in Islamic history, and her invaluable contributions to the development of Islam.


Participants had an opportunity to reflect on her sacrifices, her strength, and her unwavering faith. Her story continues to inspire Muslims worldwide, reminding them of the values of justice, truth, and steadfastness in the face of adversity.


BMMT extends its gratitude to all the donors and supporters whose generous contributions made this Majlis a success. Their selfless support enabled the organization of such an impactful event, ensuring that the legacy of Bibi Fatima (a.s) continues to be preserved and shared with the community.


The Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania also express gratitude to the community members for their active participation and commitment to preserving the legacy of Bibi Fatima (a.s). The event was a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding and teaching the true history of Islam, especially the role of women in shaping its legacy.
