AFTAB in collaboration with WF - MCE Host Transformative Spiritual Development Program for Madrasah Teachers
In a series of impactful events across East Africa - Arusha, Tanzania; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Mombasa, Kenya and Nairobi, Kenya, the Spiritual Development Program (SDP) has been making significant strides in enhancing the spiritual and pedagogical skills of Madrasah teachers. Developed by Sheikh Mohamedali Ismail of WF - MCE, the SDP offers a comprehensive approach to spiritual growth and teaching excellence, helping educators uplift themselves and their students through interactive modules and deep spiritual insights.
Program Highlights:
Arusha, Tanzania (July 27-28, 2024):
At the Yadgare Murtazawi Madrasah Hall, 20 teachers participated in a transformative SDP session. The program was highly praised for its engaging structure, which included talks, interactive games, and group activities. Participants highlighted the clarity of the sessions and the effective application of spiritual concepts to teaching. Feedback included:
"The session was very interactive and thought-provoking."
"The practical application of spiritual concepts was highly beneficial."
"The interactive activities and debates deepened our understanding of the material."
A new 5-step enhancement program was developed by the teachers, who now meet monthly to delve further into the modules.
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (August 6-8, 2024):
Over 25 teachers, including 7 from Zanzibar, attended a three-day SDP workshop. They were introduced to a master class on August 4, facilitated by Sheikh Mohamedali Ismail, which framed the Holy Quran as a "Road Map" for personal and educational development. Notable feedback included:
"The connection with the Quran was profound and empowering."
"The manual’s clear design and comprehensive content were greatly appreciated."
"Self-reflection moments and practical examples were particularly impactful."
Mombasa, Kenya (August 10-14, 2024):
The SDP in Mombasa, conducted in two batches, saw participation from 43 teachers. The sessions were marked by a visit from Mulla Sajjad Walji, Chairman of AFTAB, and closing remarks by prominent local figures. The program's focus on practical advice for Madrasah teachers, fostering spirituality in the classroom, and becoming positive role models received high praise. Feedback included:
"The integration of Quranic verses and practical activities provided a solid foundation for teaching."
"The engaging discussions and self-assessment activities were very enlightening."
"The program should be made a compulsory part of teacher training."
Nairobi, Kenya (August 17-18, 2024):
A two-day session in Nairobi gathered 24 teachers, who found the program highly interactive and deeply connected to the Quran. Participants appreciated the facilitator’s depth of knowledge and the practical application of spiritual teachings. Feedback included:
"The content was excellent, with relevant examples and engaging debates."
"The session's focus on personal reflection and Quranic connection was very beneficial."
"The program is a valuable reminder for ongoing spiritual growth."
Common Themes and Future Directions:
Across all locations, participants expressed a strong desire for more extensive and frequent sessions. The SDP's ability to connect spiritual development with practical teaching methods has resonated deeply with educators, who appreciate the program’s comprehensive and interactive approach. AFTAB, in collaboration with WF - MCE, extends its gratitude to Sheikh Mohamedali Ismail for his dedication to enhancing the spiritual and educational impact of Madrasah teachers.
Looking ahead, AFTAB plans to offer additional programs, including upgrades and master classes, to further support Madrasah teachers in their spiritual and pedagogical journeys.
