About The Jamaat

The Shia Asna Ashri Jamat (SAAJ) Nairobi is a cornerstone of the community in Kenya’s capital, tracing its roots back to the late 19th-century pioneers who settled in the city.

Today, the Jamat is defined by its institutional strength and a commitment to serving its members through every stage of life:

  • Spiritual and Community Hub: The primary life of the Jamat centers around the SAAJ Centre on Naushad Merali Drive, a landmark facility housing the Masjid and Imambargha for prayers and religious commemorations.

  • Education: The Jamat places a high priority on academic and religious growth through its educational institutions, including the Nairobi Jaffery Academy, which provides high-quality schooling and a nurturing environment for the next generation.

  • Visionary Leadership: SAAJ has a long legacy of dedicated service, built by generations of leaders who prioritized community welfare and economic upliftment.

  • Modern Outreach: The Jamat maintains a strong digital presence, utilizing media and global platforms to connect and educate its members.

  • Regional Impact: As a key member of the Africa Federation, SAAJ Nairobi plays a leading role in humanitarian and religious initiatives across the continent.

From its humble beginnings during the city's founding to its current status in the Garden City, SAAJ Nairobi remains dedicated to its core principle: "We exist to serve".
