IDD MESSAGE FROM ALHAJ MOHAMED G.M. DHIRANI
CHAIRMAN OF THE FEDERATION OF KHOJA SHIA
ITHNA-ASHERI JAMAATS OF AFRICA

All praise to the Almighty who granted us this Holy Month of Mahe Ramadhan and made it special to ask for his forgiveness and favours. May all our legitimate prayers be accepted by Him and our sins forgiven and let us be guided to refrain from committing all sins big or small in the months to come so that we reach the position of taqwa (Amen).

On behalf of the Secretariat, my office bearers and myself, I take this opportunity to wish all elders, brothers, sisters and children of the Community a Happy Eid Mubarak.

It is most gratifying to note that the Community has given Education a lot of importance and is seriously taking steps in the right direction to provide education to all our children.

Likewise and in view of the economic hardships that we all are experiencing, has made the parents encourage their children who have completed secondary education to go for further education. This is indeed very commendable. There is no youth who is so dull nor any result so bad that he or she should be discouraged from attaining further education. With this strategy in mind, the Education Board of Supreme Council is seriously drawing out plans to provide all our youths – Form IV or Form VI leavers further education in terms of courses ranging from a few weeks to two years – be it in technical, commercial, business or any other relevant fields, so that such youths who for one reason or another are unable to pursue higher education in the country or overseas are not deprived of learning specialised skills to meet the challenges of today’s competitive world.

Let us not forget that while we are struggling for academic achievement for our children, religious knowledge too should be acquired and given importance side by side with secular education in order to prepare our future youths to become good Muslims and follow the right path of our Ahlul Bait (a.s.).

In recent years statistics have shown that the health of the Community members is deteriorating at an accelerating rate. Diseases such as diabetes, hypertension (blood tension), coronary heart disease, cancer and other killer disease are now reported to be on the increase. Many such diseases can be avoided with proper diet, plenty of exercises and general change in the life style. The pathetic situation where the youths succumb to the incurable illness is most frightening and we have lost quite a few youths in the illness in recent times.

Let us not forget that an ailing community cannot progress even if it is affluent and educated.

In order to promote better health and life style, sports should be encouraged for all our youths – both boys and girls and the elderly should take up light exercises such as walking or swimming. It is strongly urged that local Jamaats and the youth wings to vigorously promote such activities to prolong the life span of our Community members.

Once again we come to the end of the Holy month with heavy hearts. Our brothers and sisters in various parts of the globe are being persecuted and oppressed, our Alims tortured and their movements restricted and the worst thing is that the torture and oppression not only come from the kafirs but also from the so called Muslim countries. May the Almighty guide them on the right path and foster the unity amongst the Muslims everywhere in the world.

I once again wish you all "Idd Mubarak" with a reminder that you should not forget your relatives, friends or neighbours on this auspicious occasion of Idd.

Lastly let us pray for the maghferat of all our loved ones and all those who passed away. Let us offer Sura-e-Fateha for all the departed souls.

Wa Salamun Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu.

Yours truly in Islam,

MOHAMED GULAMHUSSEIN DHIRANI
