PRESS RELEASE

SUMMIT BETWEEN AFRICA FEDERATION AND CONSEIL REGIONAL MADAGASCAR – FEBRUARY 2003

Our purpose to serve the Almighty Allah SWT, which we can unfortunately stray away from, was continually shown and reminded to us by the affairs relayed in the Summit meeting between Africa Federation and Conseil Regional in Antananarivo, Madagascar on 20th February 2003. The spirit of the meeting embodied principles of consultation and of serving the community and humanity.

The delegation from Africa Federation and the delegation of the Council Regional met to review and determine the status of the Conseil Regional des Khojas Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat del Ocean Indien within the Africa Federation. They also met to discuss any amendments necessary within the present Constitution of the Africa Federation to secure its status as a member of Africa Federation.

Under the chairmanship of the President of the World Federation, Alhaj Hasnainbhai Walji, the meeting deliberated fully on all the divergent views and differences in outlook that had caused misunderstanding, which eventually led to the current state of affairs between Africa Federation and Conseil Regional.

In an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and mutual respect, the meeting arrived at the following consensus:

1.      Africa federation and Conseil Regional will work in the best interest of all our communities.

2.      Africa Federation and Conseil Regional will regularly inform and update each other on each other’s activities.

3.      Of the proposed two Vice Chairmen of Africa Federation, one of the Vice Chairman shall be from the Indian Ocean Islands chosen by the current and past Presidents of Conseil Regional.

4.      Conseil Regional will deliberate upon and look after its own affairs.

5.      Councillors and delegates at the Africa Federation meetings as determined by the constitution of Africa Federation will represent Conseil Regional.

6.      By way of a separate notice, Conseil Regional is submitting Constitutional amendments for submission at the Extra Ordinary Constitutional Conference to be held in April 2003 for approval/adoption.
