CONFERENCE CALL MEETING BETWEEN WF AND AF OBS
The Office Bearers of the World
Federation (WF) and Africa Federation (AF) held a Conference Call meeting on
Saturday 3rd August 2002 to discuss various issues pertaining the
Community affairs.
The
President of the WF Alhaj Hasnain Walji (HW) in his opening remarks requested
for the maximum size of a Delegation from Africa to attend the activities
earmarked for the period of the WF Constitutional Conference.
The
Africa Federation is now requesting member Jamaats and individuals to attend the
full Programme (which has been circularised earlier) in large numbers.
Member
Jamaats and the Regional Federations have been requested to form a consensus on
the proposed Constitutional amendments and in this regard, AF is in the
process of organising a meeting with Alhaj Asaf Gulamhussein to move the AF's
proposed amendments further.
The
AF Education Board is in the process of approving over 55 Student Loans
applications this academic year with the required budget exceeding US$ 450,000.
The WF is providing 3 MGN Scholarships for GBP. 30,000 and 5 Gifted Student
Scholarships (50% WF & 50% AF) for GBP. 25,000 this year.
HW reiterated
his continued support to the AF on all matters relating to Education. The
Mulla Asgher Memorial Assistance Scheme (MAMAS) needs to be given the necessary
impetus for moving forward and AF is pleased to announce that Br. Masum Meghji (Mombasa)
has been appointed as the Convenor of this noble Scheme and Br. Aunali Khalfan
(Dar-es-Salaam) has been appointed the Liaison Officer for Tanzania.
A
report was presented on the progress of the settlement of the displaced Somali
families under SETWEL and it is very heartening to report the WF's continued
support towards the requirements.
AF
has requested the WF to update and facilitate through Legal advisers the
possibility of obtaining British Nationality status for possible qualifiers
under the Bill being discussed in British Parliament. We would wish to
advise members to start collecting all available Data that they may have in
their possession.
