Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya
Egerton University students at Discover Islam Seminar

A group of 15 students, accompanied by three Senior Lecturers from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences : Department of Philosophy, History and Religion visited Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya on 10th July, 2006 to participate in ‘Discover Islam seminar’.

Short talks on Islam, Culture and Science and the Status and Rights of Women in Islam were delivered by Sister Rehema Abdillahi Nassir and Sister Rayhana Molu.  This was followed by a presentation by Br.Fazleabbas Datoo on Islam and effect of Globalization

After each presentation participants were engaged in interactive discussion. This enabled them to comment, ask questions or clear previously held misconceptions about Islam.

An exhibition of posters was done on Discover Islam Series published by Transcom International, USA. This display was thrilling for the visitors who took down notes.

The seminar concluded with the students being given a brief insight into the history and activities of the Bilal Muslim Mission and being presented with gifts of literature.

Some of the comments received from the students were:

-         Perfect presentation and organizational format, informative, easy to understand.

-        As salaam Alaikum, The presenters were very knowledgeable and very competent, preaching with a
passion and saying what they knew to the best of their knowledge per the correct teachings of Islam.
The welcome and hospitality is highly appreciated, you made a lot of preparations and arrangements
for us, sacrificed a lot for us. All these are appreciated. I am personally grateful, I am a Muslim but
did not get enough Religious Education when I was young because of some circumstances and I am
very willing to learn more about my religion and I am very sure you, Bilal Muslim will be the right
people for that. The presentation was perfect.

In his comments, the Co-ordinator Mr Joseph Mwangi wrote : This was a very interesting, Educative and mind opening session. The topics were well covered. We hope to have more of such sessions in future and also with more students from our sister campuses.
