11^th Africa Federation SPORTS FESTIVAL UMOJA SPORTS FESTIVAL

DAR-ES-SALAAM - 2006

The Umoja Sports Festival hosted by Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat under the Union Sports Club was held from 21^st to 26^th December 2006.

464 participants and officials 15 different cities - Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam, Dubai Satwa, Dubai Qusais, Lindi, Mombasa, Morogoro, Moshi, Mumbai Nairobi, Pakistan,  Songea, Stanmore, Toronto and USA participated at the Festival.

Games played were Cricket, Football, Golf, Mini Football, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball,

Alhaj Anver Dharamsi, President of Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat declared the Festival Open on Thursday 21^st December 2006.  Dr. Ahmed Hassam, President of the World Federation drew the curtains on Tuesday 26^th December 2006. The Chairman of Africa Federation Alhaj Ramzan Nanji and Alhaj Amir Somji Chairman of the Sports Council also graced the colourful closing ceremony.

The Africa Federation wish to record their appreciation to the Managing Committee of Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat; the Organizing Committee, the volunteers and all members of the Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat for their tireless efforts, support and encouragement which played a big role in making the Umoja Festival a memorable and successful one.

At the Closing Ceremony Dubai and Mombasa Jamaats offered to host the next Sports Festival scheduled to take place in 2008. 

The Sports Council is now seeking for host for the Ladies Sports Festival to be held in 2007.
