SPORTSPERSON OF
THE YEAR – 2006

The Secretariat is pleased to announce that Br. Hussein A. Kermalli and Sis Aatiyah Mehboob both of Arusha have been adjudged Sportsman for the Year and Sportswoman for the Year 2006 respectively and were awarded the Abul Fazl Trophy and Late Zulfikar Khimji Trophy at the 23rd Triennial Conference held in Arusha.
Hussein aged 29 years is a member of Kilimeru Sports of Arusha and plays Cricket, Football, Volleyball, cricket, Tennis and Table-tennis. He has played in various tournaments since his school days and has won various awards and trophies. He has sponsored three cricket tournaments and one football tournament in Arusha. Br. Hussein is a member of the Arusha Jamaat Managing Committee and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Madressa Opening.
Aatiyah aged 14 is a member of Kilimeru Sports of Arusha and plays Football, Netball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Rounders and Swimming. She was awarded two gold medals at the Ladies Sports Festival in 2005 for Badminton and Rounders. She does volunteering at the Mosque and is a participant of the DARS and Hifz programs.
The Chairman of the Africa Federation Alhaj Ramzan Nanji and his office bearers and the Sports Council Chairman, Amir Somji and the Executive Committee take this opportunity to congratulate Br. Hussein Kermalli, Sis Aatiyah Mehboob and Arusha Jamaat.
The other nominations received for the Sportsman Awards were of Br. Mujtaba Khimji of Nairobi and Br. Rizwan Rattansi of Dar-es-Salaam.
