WAQF NAMU for the New Mosque and Imambara - Kampala - Sunday 18th August 1963

With greetings and by the Almighty’s taufiq on behalf of “Haji Alibhai Ramji Charitable Trust, the Masjid built on Plot 108, Nakivubo, North Road, Kampala has been given as “Waqf” and for this we are really thankful to the Lord.

We are greatly indebted to the Mumineen who sincerely assisted in bringing this task to a completion and by making it (the masjid) neat, attractive and beautiful.

The full authority of running and managing the religious activities at the Masjid has been handed over to the K.S.I. Jamat of Kampala which is also now fully responsible for the same, neither Haji Alibhai Ramji Charitable Trust, its trustees nor any of its family members has the right over it, they remain as normal community members participating only in functions at the Masjid.

Furthermore we will be obliged to the Kampala Jamaat to solemnize the sanctity of the Masjid by having the “sigha” recited, announce the Masjid as “Waqf” and conduct its inauguration.

A Masjid being the Lord’s house, our earnest request is that its sacredness remains at all times and may the Almighty grant us all the taufiq for the same.

We are overtly grateful to the Kampala Jamat for accepting to shoulder this responsibility wholeheartedly.  In the blessings that He grants us, in it being a share of the 14 infallibles, we praise HIM and with the Wasila of the Panjatan, may this little service of ours be accepted in the realm of the All Powerful.  Ameen.

KAMPALA’S NEW IMAMBARA

Marhum Alibhai Ramji came to Africa in 1896 and started business with his brother Jamalbhai. In 1904 the later established his business in Jinja - Uganda. In 1921/22 he started a Cotton Ginnery, and then in 1927 opened a Coffee Industry. He was quite generous, his son donated the wonderful Masjid (drawing above) in the father’s name in Kampala in 1947
