RECOGNITION OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS
1953
In June 1953, during the Coronation Ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as the Queen, she had the pleasure in honouring the following: -
CORONATION MEDALS 1. Br. Abdulhusein Nurmohamed – Mombasa 2. Br. Hassanali G.A. Datoo – Mombasa 3. Br. Mohammedali Shariff Jiwa – Moshi 4. Marhum Br. Ahmed A. Moledina – Toro – Uganda 5. Br. Abdullah Fazal – Bukoba 6. Br. Gulamhussein Remtulla Hansraj – Soroti – Uganda 7. Br. Abdulrasul Bandali – Zanzibar 8. Br. Hussein Dewji – Zanzibar 9. Br. Anver Hassan Virji – Zanzibar 10. Br. Akbar G. Dharsee – Zanzibar 11. Br. M.D. Kermalli – Zanzibar 12. Br. Hussein A. Rahim – Zanzibar
v Br. Hassanali G.A. Datoo of Mombasa was appointed the Police Reserve District Commissioner a high post which no Asian had ever been given so far.
The Central Council in its 11th Session held in Mombasa in March 1954 recorded its congratulations to the above named personalities.
1954
v The hardworking Councilor, Br. Mohamed Shariff Jiwa of Moshi was honoured an M.B.E title by the Queen during the New Year for his services to the public in Tanganyika. The Central Council in its 12th Session held in Mombasa in April 1955 recorded its congratulations to Br. Jiwa
v A member of the Asian society who happen to be from our Community, Br. Jafferali A.G. Versi (Manager of Messrs M. Suleman Versi Ltd), was appointed as Governor of the new Legislative Council of Southern Province i.e. Lindi Region.
The President of the Central Council Ebrahimbhai Sheriff Dewji on advice of the Council members communicated with the well known Tanganyika Governor and received encouraging response. The Central Council in its 12th Session held in Mombasa in April 1955 recorded its congratulations to Br. Versi for being appointed as governor and prayed for his success. |
