ANNUAL REPORT OF THE ITHNA-ASHERI EDUCATION SOCIETY ZANZIBAR FOR THE YEAR 1961
BOUQUET FOR THE SOCIETY
FOREWARD TO THE REPORT
It gives me great pleasure to have teen asked to write a foreword for Ithna-Asheri Education Society's Annual Report,
When Ithna-Asheri Education Society was founded, many doubted whether it would be able to fulfill its objectives, particularly in the field of education. But they were to be proved wrong. The Society in its short period of existence has given most valuable services in the sphere of education and is being looked upon as a model society by others in East Africa.
The magnificent Nursery School in Zanzibar, for which not only our Zanzibar brothers, but the entire community of Africa are proud of, is one of the outstanding achievements of the Society, followed by the establishment of secondary classes for boys, against many odds. But sincerity and determination of members is the cause of its smooth running today. The efficient management of Haji Datu Hemani Ithna-Asheri Girls' School has tremendously helped to raise the standard of the school. Recently the Society inaugurated secondary classes for girls, and I would say without hesitation that they would flourish bearing in mind the past performances of the Society.
I cannot go without congratulating the past and present presidents, Hon Secretaries, Hon Treasurers and members of the management committee of the Society who have rendered sincere and selfless services for the benefit of the community.
Let this be an example to other institutions and its workers that if there is sincerity and unselfish motives, the support from the community will always be forthcoming.
I hope that the Society will grow and live for many years to render ever increasing constructive service to the community.
With salaams.
EBRAHIM HUSEIN SHERIFF PRESIDENT FEDERATION OF THE KHOJA SHIA ITHNA-ASHER JAMATS OF AFRICA.

A prominent feature in the picture is Mohamed Dhirani (AFED Chairman 1983-1989 & 1995 - 2001) who surely did not envisage then that in the years to come he would lead the expanded Federation of Africa Jamaats.
