Dehydration Myths – Busted!

myth1Myth: You need to drink eight glasses of water every day.

Fact: No one's sure where the so-called 8-by-8 rule came from. The truth is, your daily requirement depends on your diet, size, and unique body chemistry.  In 2004, the Institute of Medicine (IOM), a division of the National Academy of Sciences, actually set the adequate total-daily-water intake at higher than 64 ounces — 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 liters for women. But those numbers refer to total water intake, meaning all beverages and water-containing foods count toward your daily quota.

A tribute to Ebrahimbhai by Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, Chairman of AFED:

A Leader of Great Wisdom, Intellect and of farsighted Vision, he was a Devoted, Selfless and Sincere Social Worker of the Community.

eb2The sadness of the news of the sudden passing away of Al Hajj Ebrahim Hussein Sheriff Dewji on 9th January, 1964 in Zanzibar at a young age while in the position of the Chairmanship of AFED still echoes up to this day in the minds of many who knew him, it was a moment of great sadness and shock across the Shia Ithna-Asheri community in Africa, and beyond its borders. As I read through in the Africa Federation Samachar of May, 1964, the accolades and tributes written by various leaders, friends and others from within and outside our community following his sudden death, I realize how great, humble and eminent this young devotee of the community was. He lived a short life but left magnificent and indelible footprints on the path of the history of our community in Africa and in the Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaats of Africa.

Dehydration - You are thirstier then you think!

dehy1You may take water for granted, but your body doesn't. Two-thirds of a healthy human body is actually made up of water. It's necessary to help our blood carry nutrients and waste (toxins) around the body and to help the chemical reactions that occur in our cells. Every cell, tissue and organ needs water to function properly.
