Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program

Each year, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program sends 1 to 3 Tanzanians to the United States to attend a 12-month non-degree professional development program.  This program is for professionals and administrators with a minimum of five years’ experience in their field.

The birth of the Astronomical New Moon is at 3.17 p.m. on Wednesday 26th April 2017 i.e. 28th Rajab 1438 A.H.
On Thursday 27th April 2017, the age of the New Moon after the Sun has set is:

Crescent age at Sunset 27 hours 00 minutes     
Moonset 7.24 p.m.
Time Duration 1 hour 07 minutes
Crescent Elongation at Sunset      15.41 degrees
Moon Altitude at Sunset 14.43 degrees


The best time to observe the crescent is when the sun is 5 degrees below the horizon at 6.34 p.m., when the crescent will Insha’Allah be 16 degrees North of West, 2 degrees North of where the sun had set.

The Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaats of Africa (Africa Federation) was formed in 1946 for the purupose, mainly of bringing together all the Jamaats in Africa representing the KSI community under one federal organization. The aim was to ensure development and progress in the Jamaats through unity and collective efforts in the formulation of  vision and planning to achieve the common aims of the individual Jamaats. By the Grace of Allah (SWT) and through the visions and endeavours applied by the successive leadership of the Africa Federation and the co-operation from the Jamaats, the Federation has  succeeded in advancing its Aims and Objects through the vissitudes of times.

Development and Progress in the religious, socio-econmic andeducational spheres through unity has been the hallmark of the Federation. The famous slogan of “EK Bano, Nek Bano” introduced by the President Alhaj Ebrahim Sheriff Dewji during his term; 1958 – 1964 reflected the core mission of the Federation which is UNITY of  Purpose and Service.

After 50 years of its successful Mission and Services, the Africa Federation is now launching and introducing a new LOGO for itself replacing the current one as a mark of the Federation continuing ahead in its journey of history.

The Archives section under the Africa Federation Secretariat has resumed working on the digitization of documents, books and files in possession in the Archives section.  It is expected that once this exercise is completed, a directory of all such documents will be prepared for ease of reference.
The Africa Federation Secretariat is pleased to introduce and welcome the following three youths who have wholeheartedly come forward to provide the much needed voluntary services to the Archives section. This will also provide them with unique opportunity to learn and grasp history of our Community. They are the future torch-bearers of our Community and AFED is making all efforts to encourage the youths through Afed Youth Network (AYN) to develop in them sense of leadership leading to progress, productivity and prosperity.
In his remarks, Alhaj Murtaza Jivraj (Kerbala), the Sectional Secretary of Archives said - “I am very pleased to state that the work undertaken by these three dedicated hardworking Volunteers is progressing well. I applaud them for contributing their valuable time, and the commitment and enthusiasm they have shown in helping to sort out and record the historical documents in our possession. I look forward to the success of this assignment in the next 2 years which will make it convenient for all interested Community members to access the information”.

The Africa Federation (AFED) in collaboration with the World Federation of KSIMC and with the cooperation of the KSI Jamaat of Dar es Salaam launched the first Rent-to-Own housing scheme in Dar es Salaam on 2nd February to coincide with the Birth Anniversary of Bibi Zainab (A.S) in February 2017.
The Housing Board is pleased to inform that the construction works of the Al Asghery Residency is progressing well and work has already reached the third floor (Pictured below).  It is anticipated that the Project will be completed as per schedule.

Siwjibhai Somji was born on 21st December 1882 in India. At the age of 18, he travelled from India to Zanzibar in a dhow. He joined in employment of Gulamhussein Somji Lilani in Zanzibar at a salary of 100 rupees a year.
After one year he joined at Remtulla Allarakhia Tejani for 4 months. Siwjibhai left this job and travelled to Kilwa by ship named ‘Governor”. He then travelled from Kilwa to Songea on foot taking with him tents, laborers and food. He used to walk 6 hours every day. It took them 24 days to reach Songea – a distance of 320 miles. He started working at his brother Jaffer Somji’s shop in Songea. After a year he went back to India for marriage.

The AFED Secretariat is pleased to inform all our Jamaats in Africa and the Territorial Councils of Madagascar and Reunion that a Leadership Development Programme (LDP) will be held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from Saturday 13th to Tuesday 16th May 2017.
A limited number of seats (25) are available for this leadership training programme. The Jamaats and the Territorial Councils are requested to publicize this programme and to nominate participants from both genders, at earliest possible.
This programme is specifically tailored for those who are keen to enhance self-knowledge, confidence and acquire leadership skills, and more so for the younger generation who are eager to develop themselves to take on new challenges in order to be effective and successful in their organizations and their personal lives.
