In Focus – Synergies and Career Counseling

In the present global arena there is a concerted momentum towards building synergies; A call for different organizations and institutions to come together and pool their experiences, personnel and other resources available in line with common objectives. This allows for better planning on the usage of various resources and for better strategies enriched with the different experiences and expertise.

In line with this theme the Education Board of Africa Federation recently facilitated several initiatives between the various community schools and education related bodies of the Jamaats.

Firstly, the Education Board facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Board of Education of KSIJ Dar es Salaam and Nairobi Jaffery Education Board. This agreement allows the boards to come together and pioneer a pilot Teachers Exchange Program between the community schools. The program would allow the community schools to send their teachers across borders to learn from each other and share their experiences.

DAR ES SALAAM JAMAAT ORGANIZES CHARITY WALK TO CELEBRATE SOLIDARITY DAY 2017

For the third consecutive year, the Ithnasheri Union (IU) under the auspices of KSIJ Dar es Salaam organized a Charity Walk to celebrate the AFED Solidarity Day 2017.  This event is held every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of our 12th Imam Al Hujjah (ATFS) by raising funds for the underprivileged who are supported by the Africa Federation.

The President of Dar es Salaam Jamaat, Alhaj Azim Dewji, the Resident Aalim, Sayyid Adeel Raza, the Vice Chairman of AFED, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan, the Hon. Secretary of AFED, Alhaj Hussein Karim, the Assistant Hon. Secretary of AFED Alihassan Kassam, Assistant Hon. Treasurer of AFED, Alhaj Aliabbas Nasser and Managing Committee Members of Dar es Salaam Jamaat were among the participants.

The Start Off ceremony commenced with the recitation of some verses of the Holy Quran followed by an inspirational talk by Sayyid Adeel Raza.  Thereafter the dignitaries lighted the Solidarity Torch and performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the start of the walk.  The walk attracted about 300 participants, both young and old.

Unfortunately, during the walk, we lost our staunch supporter of all Africa Federation events, Alhaj Akber Mohamedali Habib.  Marhum always took part in the Solidarity Walk since its inception.  He really looked forward to this walk and left this world walking for a good cause.  We pray to the Almighty to grant him an elevated status in Jannah, Ameen.

An amusing account – Kampala 1942

Excerpts from a ten part section of a chapter on the growth of the KSI community in Uganda - from the forthcoming book: “Sustained Struggle” - on the life and times of MohamedJaffer Sheriff Dewji - 1889-1961 - by Hassan Ali M. Jaffer.

In 1961, I was visiting Kampala when I went over to see a friend, Gulamali Manji, who introduced me to his father, Manjibhai Walji. When Manjibhai recognized me, he asked: “How is your grandfather?” Before I could respond, Manjibhai quipped: “Tell him to come back to Kampala. There is Allah in Kampala now!” The words used in Cutchi were:  Toje Dade ke cho, bhale pacha ache. Hane Allah hida achi vyo aae!

I was stunned at this comment and did not know how to react. As I stared at Manjibhai in utter disbelief, with a smile, Manjibhai beckoned me to sit down and explained to me what he meant by this comment.

‘Your grandfather came here once for the month of Muharram (in 1942). We had our old Imambara then, part of which was used as Baituassalaat, since we did not have a proper Masjid.

‘In his Muharram Majalis, for ten days, your grandfather lectured us with stress on one subject only – Salaat. He talked about the importance of Salaat, the need for offering Salaat on time and the importance of offering Salaat in a Masjid. He talked about Sawab for building a Mosque and the ajr of Baaqeatussalehaat for such charity. He also stressed on the importance of paying religious dues, Zakaat, Khums and for making donations for good causes.’ He made a sarcastic remark about Kampala in Gujarati: ‘Imam Hussein che; Khuda nathi!’ - This comment irked.
