The Africa Federation Golf Competition dubbed the 'Tuwasiliane Festival' was hosted by the KSI Jamaat of Moshi and Arusha on 2nd and 3rd February 2013. This was the first Festival in which a competition of AFED was played on two venues, which was an exciting challenge for the organizers, and a wonderful retreat for the Golfers.

The Festival provided a platform for interactive communications and exchanges between the 41 Golfers who took to the golf courses of Moshi (TPC) and Arusha (Arusha Gymkhana Club).  Old golfers met with their counterparts from East Africa, junior golfers met for the first time, while the not so old, not so young golfers met with hugs, all preparing for some good golf on the two courses.

Further to the Notice sent to all Constituent Jamaats of Africa Federation dated 24th December 2012, inviting Nominations for the Position of Chairman of Africa Federation, for the term 2013 – 2016, the time has now come for me to announce the outcome of this exercise.

In the absence of no alternate nominations, it is my proud pleasure to declare ALHAJ ANWARALI R DHARAMSI being elected Unopposed as Chairman of the Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaats of Africa, for the Term 2013 – 2016.

I pray to the Allah (s.w.t) to give Tawfeeq to Alhaj Anwarbhai Dharamsi to continue in serving as Chairman of AFed for the ensuing term, Ameen.

Further to our Circular No: JMT/200/12 of 2nd January 2013 wherein the Central Bilal Board (CBB) invited members of the community especially the youth to design a Logo for them.

The Africa Federation Secretariat received only two submissions until the deadline date of 31st January 2013.  These were from Br. Zuhair Jaffer from Nairobi, Kenya and Sis Farzana Moustafa from Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The Board has selected the following Logo submitted by Sis Farzana Moustafa to be the official Logo of the Central Bilal Board (CBB) of Africa Federation.


The Secretariat takes this opportunity to thank Sis. Farzana for her efforts and congratulates her for this achievement.

On 31st December 2012, the head office staff of Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania gathered to bid farewell to Alhaj Mustafa Sheriff, who was employed as the Executive Secretary of the Mission since past 4 years. At the gathering, staff members expressed their appreciation for the work done by Mustafa bhai during his tenure who was initially in the Inspectorate section and later on took up the post of an Executive Secretary.

They alluded to the challenging work done by Mustafa bhai during his tenure to take the Mission towards self-sufficiency and empowering the regional centers.


The staff thanked Br. Mustafa for his approachable personality and his goodwill during his tenure. The incoming Chief Executive Officer, Alhaj Mumtazhussein Alloo expressed his profound appreciation for the cooperation and assistance extended by Br. Mustafa during the transition period which enabled him to grasp the work at the head office effectively. Br. Mumtazhussein assured the staff that he will work tirelessly to promote the goals of the Mission and, will provide all the support to the staff to perform their duties efficiently.

A small token of their appreciation was presented to Br. Mustafa by the staff and wished him a prosperous future and success in his new career.

Br. Mustafa thanked the staff for their kind words and affection and recounted his pleasant experience of working learning a lot from them. He wished them all a very pleasant and successful future and urged them to strive for the success of the Mission.

Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania



The AFED Chairman Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, accompanied by the Hon. Treasurer Alhaj Mohamed Hemani will be visiting Moshi and Arusha Jamaats, from Friday 1st to Monday 4th February 2013.

The Chairman and the Hon Treasurer will attend the 'Tu Wasiliane' Golf Festival to be held in Moshi on Saturday 2nd February preceded to a function on Friday night in Moshi where all the participants will be handed over their kits.  The AFED Chairman and the Hon Treasurer will then travel to Arusha and attend the closing ceremony on Sunday 3rd February 2013.

Whilst in Moshi and Arusha, they will also meet with the Jamaat Managing Committee and Trustees for the visit to the sites and to discuss various developments and any other pertinent issues concerning the Jamaats, and the community in general.

In Arusha a short ceremony will be held on Saturday 2nd February 2013 after Maghribain prayers to hand over the Title Deed of the KSI Jamaat Hospital building to the Arusha Jamaat.  The purchase of the Hospital is by a joint contribution of the Africa Federation and the family of Alhaj Muslim Rehmtullah of Arusha.

The Africa Federation nominated Councillors, Alhaj Amirali Somji and Alhaj Rizwan Peera of Arusha and Alhaj Shafiq Kanji of Moshi will join the Africa Federation delegation in Arusha and Moshi respectively.

We wish the participants and organizers of 'Tu Wasiliane' Golf Festival enjoyable and successful festival.

The Africa Federation Sports Council invites all Member Jamaats in mainland Africa and the Jamaats under the Regional Council of Madagascar to participate in the Football and Volleyball Tournaments to be held in Tanga from 29th March to 1st April 2013.

Benefits of sports are many and not just limited to physical and mental health. Other benefits are social interactions, learning new skills and talents, improvements in communications and teamwork, developing long term quality of life improvements etc.

The Federation encourages sports in our community for several reasons, and similarly Jamaats are urged to encourage its members and provide support, particularly for the kids and youths to take active part in the sporting activities throughout the year.

The Africa Federation and its Sports Council wishes to record its sincere gratitude to Tanga Jamaat for hosting the Football and Volleyball Tournaments.

The program for the above Tournaments will be circulated in due course.

The best time to observe the crescent is when the sun is 5 degrees below the horizon at 7.05 p.m., when the crescent will Insha'Allah be 2 degrees South of West, 12 degrees North of where the sun had set.
