In keeping with the objectives of maintaining and developing external relationships, a delegation of the Africa Federation paid an official visit to the Indian High Commission in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday, 20th December 2013.

The delegation headed by the Chairman of Africa Federation, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, included Hon. Secretary, Aunali Khalfan, Hon. Treasurer, Mohamed Hemani, Assistant Hon. Secretary, Kumail Manji and Mr. Shiraz Rashid, a prominent member of our community in Dar es Salaam who accompanied the AFED delegation. They were warmly received by His Excellency Debnath Shaw, the High Commissioner of India to Tanzania at his office, along Kinondoni Road in Dar es Salaam.

His Excellency, Mr. Debnath Shaw was appointed High Commissioner of India to Tanzania and joined the Indian Mission in Dar es Salaam on 23rd July 2012; he took over from former Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, His Excellency, Mr. K. V. Bhagirath.

FREE EYE CAMP REPORT

CAMP STATION - MTIBWA, MOROGORO, TANZANIA

Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania organized a three days eye camp at Mtibwa in Morogoro District which is 90 Kms from Morogoro town. The Free Eye Camp was sponsored by Beta Charitable Trust of U.K. and carried out from 29th November to 1st December, 2013.

In our 26 years of experience of the organization of Eye Camps, we observed that many patients do not believe that they get checked, given medicine or spectacles or operated free of charge. But, once words spread around, patients flock in large numbers.

People from different parts of the nearby villages gathered for registration as can be seen in the photographs below

CIRCULAR NO: JMT/44/13  

Tuwasiliane 2014

The Tuwasiliane Football and Volleyball Tournament that was being held in Tanga during Easter Holiday in March 2013 was postponed following the tragic incident of the collapse of the building adjacent to our Mosque in Dar es Salaam causing several deaths and casualties in our community and also among other communities in Dar-es-Salaam.

The tournaments titled “Tuwasiliane Sports Festival” for male only will also include the game of Cricket. The Festival will be held during the Easter Holidays from 18th to 21st April 2014 in Tanga, Tanzania concurrently with the Ladies Sports Festival in Dar-es-Salaam.

The Sports Council is also contemplating to include the game of Bhool. This is a popular game in our community in Madagascar & Reunion and will be an introduction as a demonstration game for the sportsmen from the Jamaats in Mainland Africa during this Tournament.

The birth of the Astronomical New Moon is at 2.15 p.m. on Wednesday 1st January 2014 i.e. 28th Safar 1435 A.H.

 On Thursday 2nd January, the age of the New Moon after the Sun has set is:

Crescent Elongation at Sunset 16.49 degrees

SIGHTING IS POSSIBLE

 

The best time to observe the crescent is when the sun is 5 degrees below the horizon at 7.00 p.m., when the crescent will Insha’Allah be 14 degrees South of West, 9 degrees North of where the sun had set.

The Secretariat is pleased to inform all Constituent Jamaats of Africa Federation that the 5th AFED Ladies Sports Festival will be held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania during the Easter Holidays, from Friday, 18th to Monday, 21st April 2014.

We are thankful to the KSI Jamaat of Dar-es-Salaam for kindly accepting to host this Festival.

The Festival requires a great deal of preparations, forward planning and assistance to ensure the smooth and successful accomplishment of the Festival. In this regard, we look forward to all the Jamaats for their full cooperation and support to the AFED Sports Council and to the Organizing Committee.

We are pleased to send out this 5th update to our community members in Africa and overseas on the progress of the constructionof “Al Qa’eem building. The last update was issued in July, 2013.

The AFED building named after Imam of our time, Al Mahdi (ATFS) - “AL QA’EEM” is located on Plot 9 Jacaranda Road, Arusha - Tanzania. The eight storey building consists of 24 flats (each floor will have - two flats of 2 bedrooms and one flat of 3 bedrooms). This Housing Project is for the deserving members of our community in Arusha.

The construction work of “Al Qa’eem” commenced in August 2012 after the Government and Town Council requirements for the building and other permits were completed. Insha’allah, the delivery of the building is expected by March/April 2014.

Since the last report issued by the AFED Secretariat in July 2013, the Project in Arusha is progressing well and is on schedule.

The eight floor building is complete and the contractor is presently working on interiors and fixtures, like cupboards, cabinets etc. in the flats, it is expected to be completed by February/March 2014.

In commemoration of the Martyrdom of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUP) Imam Husayn (AS), Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in conjunction with Kwale District Eye Centre and Jaffery Medical Centre organized a Medical Camp on Sunday, 17th November 2013 at Samburu Health Centre in Kwale County to assist patients with eye diseases, general health problems and polio vaccination.

ECONOMIC UPLIFTMENT PROJECT
MODULE 2 - BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya organized a Six Day Module 2 Training on Business Management for Jipe Moyo Women Group in Bilal Centre at Dembwa from 20th to 25th October 2013. This comes after the group went through the Module 1 training in Leadership and Financial Savings skills which was conducted June, 2013.

The main objective of this module was to help the women fraternity in the Micro-finance groups to better understand:

  • The importance of starting a profitable business
  • Importance of controlling their business cash.
  • Profit and loss in a business.
  • Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT Analysis) of a business.
  • The marketing tools (6p's) i.e. Place, Product, Promotion, Price, People, and Plan.
  • The importance of record keeping for their businesses.

The module was facilitated by BMMK trainers Sis Sidi Nyota and Sis Kauchi Chifui. A session on Islamic Religious Education was also held during the training and was facilitated by Sis. Zainab Jaffer.

With the sighting of the moon of Muharram, for the first Islamic calendar month, which Muslims across the globe commemorated by mourning  the great martyrdom of Imam Husayn (AS), the Grandson of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW), and the tragic events of Kerbala.  The Mission conducted various activities in the rural villages and in Mombasa for the first ten days of Muharram for performing azaadari of Imam Husayn (AS).

With continuous training received from the Mission on empowerment.  The women groups have come up with the idea of creating a platform to market their products in different areas.  One such step forward was facilitating local trade fairs in their villages.

The first local trade fair was hosted by Lamkani Women Group, Mackinon Road village, on 21st August, 2013.   Members from 15 Women groups under BMMK Economic Upliftment Project from Ukambani, Taita and South Coast participated in the trade fair.
