The forecast for the Crescent of 1st Rabi-ul-Awwal 1424 A.H. is as follows: - (Please note that the forecast is based for Dar-es-Salaam and all timings are Dar-es-Salaam local time, other towns in the West should make necessary adjustments depending upon the time of sunset). 

The birth of Astronomical New Moon is at 3.16 p.m. on Thursday1st May i.e. 28th    Safar 1424. 

On Friday 29th Safar i.e. 2nd May the age of the New Moon after the Sun has set is:

Best time for sighting is after the Sun is 5 degrees below the horizon, which will occur at 6.33 p.m.  The Crescent will then be 5.7 degrees above the horizon, 11 degrees North of West, 4 degrees North of where the sun had set.
