The Central Health Board (CHB) and the Africa Federation Women’s Board (AFWB) organized jointly their first Women’s Health Awareness screening in Tanga on Saturday, 21st March 2015. The aim of this campaign is to raise health awareness in the women fraternity of our community and promote the culture of regular health checkups in the members of our community.

The screening involved checking of Random Blood Glucose (RBG) and Blood Pressure (BP) together with special screenings for Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer by health professionals from Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) Dar-es-Salaam and PSI Tanzania respectively.

Eighteen (18) women were screened and given instant advice based on their results and general consultation for other health issues as well. Thereafter they received flyers containing information on important health related issues affecting the lives of women such as importance of Vitamin D, Infertility, Exercise, information on Cervical Cancer, Physiotherapy, Depression and Family upbringing.

The participants also received ‘Stress Balls’ as gifts for participating in the screening with a small message on how to use the stress balls.
Tanga Jamaat women highly appreciated the screening exercise, stating that such an activity has been conducted after a long time.
The Central Health Board and the Africa Federation Women’s Board would like to thank the Tanga Jamaat Office Bearers for their hospitality, coordination and support towards this program and also for their generous donation of a Blood Pressure machine for use in such programs.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the volunteers who devoted their valuable time for this activity and ORCI and PSI Tanzania for providing their health professionals.

We shall continue to organize such programs for other Jamaats as steps towards a health community in keeping up with the famous quote – When you educate a woman you educate the whole nation. We are hoping that raising health awareness in the women fraternity will in turn better the health of our whole Community.
