The Chairman of the Africa Federation, Alhaj Shabir Najafi is pleased to appoint Alhaj Mohamedhussein Amirali Somji of Mombasa, Kenya to the post of Chairman of the Africa Federation Sports Council for the term 2016 - 2019.
Brief Profile
Mohamedhussein Somji was born in 1966 in Mombasa, Kenya. He completed his Primary Education at the Alibhai Panju Jaffery School, and his Secondary at Agakhan High and Alidina Visram after which he pursued 2 Levels of CPA at Mombasa Polytechnic and joined the family business. 
He presently runs a start up business of distribution of promotional products focused on Brand Management. He also recently completed his Masters degree in Business in emerging markets.

Mohamedhussein is a dedicated social worker who has led one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in Mombasa with recognition from Rotary International. In the Rotary movement he has served in various capacities, as President, Assistant Governor and as a Trustee in the Kenya Country Office.



Marhum Ahmed Karim migrated to Mombasa in 1926 from Mumbai, India.

He was a sportsman and inculcated the same to his children and grandchildren. The Karim family went on to become international sportsman.

The Karim family has contributed immensely to Kenya sports at the highest level for 3 generations, from 1950 to date.

The Secretariat is pleased to announce that the Sports Council has adjudged the Sports Persons for the Year 2014, they are:

Br. Ali Shariff of Dar-es-Salaam – Sportsman of the Year

Sis Faiza Somji of Arusha – Sportswoman of the Year

Nominations were received from Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam and Mombasa Jamaats.  We urge other Jamaats to participate in this Competition.

The Secretariat is pleased to inform all Constituent Jamaats of the Africa Federation that the 5th AFED Ladies Sports Festival dubbed ‘As Salaam Ladies Sports Festival’ was successfully concluded in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania during the Easter Holidays. The Festival commenced with a grand Opening Ceremony on Thursday 17th April 2014, and on Sunday, 20th April 2014 the Closing Ceremony was marked spectacularly with various entertaining activities and recognitions to the participants and winners.

We are pleased to inform that the Tuwasiliane Football and Volleyball Festival was successfully concluded in Tanga over the Easter Holidays.  The Festival commenced with the Opening Ceremony on Thursday 17th April 2014 with a good attendance by members of Tanga Jamaat, sportsmen and sports officials from several Jamaats.
