The Chairman of the Africa Federation, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi is pleased to announce the appointment of Alhaj Akil Hirji as the Chairman of the Africa Federation Economic and Housing Development Board for the remaining term, 2013 – 2016.
 
Akil bhai takes over the combined functions of the Housing and Economic Empowerment sectors following the adoption of the new Terms of Reference (TOR) of the Board at the 75th Session of the Supreme Council of the Federation of KSI Jamaats of Africa held in Dar es Salaam from 2nd to 3rd May 2014.
 
The Economic and Housing Development areas are largely inter-linked in its functions which involve initiatives and strategic planning with a focused direction in meeting the aims and objectives of the Africa Federation for sustainable growth in the economy and enriching the standard of living of our community members by working cohesively with our Jamaats for the development in these sectors.
 
Profile of Alhaj Akil Hirji
Alhaj Akil Hirji was born in Zanzibar 1966. At a very young age he moved with his family to Dar-es-Salaam where pursued his primary and secondary education. Thereafter, he with his brothers jointly formed Travel Industry & Estate business in Dar es Salaam in 1984. He is a successful businessman operating a number of family commercial ventures. He is married and has 2 children.

 Akilbhai's community, social and voluntary services spans almost three decades. His passion to serve the community throughout has neither dimmed nor diminished, as he gained more experience, did he become more devoted and committed.
 

 

Akilbhai’s wealth of experience and dynamism will be a catalyst for stimulating the Board’s goals. He gained wide knowledge while serving the KSI Jamaat Dar es Salaam under the leadership of Al Hajj Aliraza Rajani, Al Hajj Asgher Bharwani, Al Hajj Pyarali Shivji and Al Hajj Anwarali Dharamsi in carrying out different roles including handling a number of projects.

To give a glimpse, following are some of the roles he has undertaken:

  • In 1999 he was appointed Chairman of Fund Raising Committee for the Tabligh Centre Project of KSIJ Dar-es-salaam. 
     
  • In 2003, he was appointed Head of Tabligh Resource Centre KSIJ Dar-es-salaam. 
     
  • In 2004 as a founder member of the Tabligh SMS Services, he initiated an information promulgating service, which still operates successfully. 
     
  • 2004 to 2008, for two terms served as a Managing Committee Member of KSIJ Dar-es-salaam during Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi tenure. He was the Chairman of Projects, Development and Housing overseeing the following projects of the Jamaat:
  • Mehfil-e-Abbas (AS) Building, 
  • The Imambargha, Musafarkhana and the prayer hall at the Cemetery. 
  • Construction of Al Abbas Flats consisting of 15 apartments and Al Ridha consisting of 12 apartments. 
  • KSIJ Dar-es-salaam Media Room, he was also a founder member. 
  • From 2008 - 2010 he was appointed as an Advisor to the President of KSIJ Dar-es-salaam, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi for projects & development.2013 Appointed as an Advisor to the Ithnaasheri Union (IU) and IU Development.
     
  • 2004 - 2010, served two terms as Africa Federation Councillor from KSIJ D ‘Salaam. In 2013 was again elected Africa Federation Councillor.

Similarly, outside the community, Akil bhai is also actively involved in social and professional services.
 
The Secretariat extends its heartiest congratulations to Alhaj Akil Hirji on his appointment and wishes him every success in achieving the goals set for the Board, and would like to assure him of our full support and co-operation.

We also take this opportunity to thank the immediate past Chairman of the Housing Board of the Africa Federation, Alhaj Munawer Bharwani for his efforts, dedication and for devoting his valuable time towards the activities of the Board.
