The Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania in collaboration with BETA Charitable Trust of Essex, U.K, Darul Muslimeen Education Center and with the support of other Well-Wishers held a free eye and health camp at Dodoma, from 9thto 12th December 2016.

The camp was held at Darul Muslimeen Education Centre, in Dodoma and the surgeries were carried out at Dodoma General Hospital with the help of the District Medical Officer.
People from various villages in Dodoma region registered for the Free Eye treatment, and a record number of 5500 patients of various ages were screened, details are given below:

Screening exercise started each day from early morning at 8 a.m. due to large turnout of the people at the Bilal Free Eye Camp. The Bilal team made up of doctors, nurses, technicians and volunteers were all engage in serving big turnout in Dodoma at Darul Muslimeen Education Centre facilities used by Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania for the Camp.

  • Total spectacles prescribed/given:                3616
  • Total various diseases discovered:                7051
  • Total cataract surgeries carried out:               319

The children’s medical camp was embedded in the eye camp which was handled by Professor Karim Manji from MUHAS and was primarily focusing on childhood medical complications to those who required consultation. Many children were screened and advised.

The Bilal Muslim Mission management wish to express its gratitude to Darul Muslimeen Education Center in Dodoma under the patronage of Alhaj Muslim Bhanji and his wife Mrs. Shamim Bhanji who hosted the event at the school whereby 8 classrooms with basic facilities and kitchen premises were utilized for preparing food for all, they also volunteered their services for the entire exercise during the Eye Camp.

The Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania wish to records its deep gratitude to the Prime Minister of The United Republic of Tanzania Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Kassim for his kind hospitality and hosting a dinner at his official residence for the Camp officials, doctors, technicians, nurses and volunteers in recognition of their dedication and free services to the people of Dodoma and nearby villages by Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania through the leadership of Alhaj Anver Merali, Mrs. Khairunbanu Anver Merali (Keki Bai), Alhaj Ain Sheriff and the team.
We also wish to express our deep appreciation to Hon. Antony Mavunde, Member of Parliament (MP) for Dodoma for his support and co-operation and his presence at the Eye Camp was appreciated by the Dodoma residents.
The Bilal Muslim Mission Tanzania conveys its recognition to the BETA Charitable Trust of Essex, U.K. for sponsoring the surgeries carried out at the Camp.
Our sincere appreciation to Tanzania Road Haulage (1980) Ltd. (TRH), WIPAHS Kibaha and AOTCO for the providing transport to the team and for carrying medical equipment all the way from Dar Es Salaam to Dodoma and return.
We are thankful to entire team of doctors, nurses, volunteers, regional and District Government Authorities and medical officers, Dodoma General Hospital staff, Darul Muslimeen School administration and teachers, the Tanzania Police Force and all those who in one way or the other supported and facilitated the success of the Free Eye Camp.
