In collaboration with Ansar Day, the Mission hosted an exhibition cum market day on the first day of the Annual Women Empowerment seminar held from the 22nd February 2015 to the 26th February 2015. This was the second time the Mission hosted such an event since its initiation.

Two members from each BMM Kenya groups and 3 ladies from Nakuru showcased their businesses which are normally conducted in their rural centres.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Mission in collaboration with IEB of World Federation of KSIMC, The Federation of KSI Jamaats of Africa and Central Bilal Board organized a ten day workshop for muballigheen and muballighat in an effort to create a platform to share knowledge and experience.

The workshop attracted 110 participants from various organizations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi. The lead facilitator for the seminar was Alhaj Sheikh Ayub Rashid from the United Kingdom.  The workshop commenced on 22nd to the 31st of December 2014 at Bilal Hall.

Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya organized a six day combined module 2 training also known as Business Management training for all new members in Zainabiyya Women Group-Masongaleni, Rahma Women Group – Kilungu and Masumin Women Group – Nzavoni in Ukambani area.
 
This comes after the groups went through the Module 1 training – Leadership and savings skills which was conducted early this year.


The module was facilitated by
Sis Sidi Nyota and Sis Kauchi Chifui.
 
Sessions on Islamic Religious Education was also held during the training and it was facilitated by Sis. Zainab Iddy.
 
The Average attendance of the participants per day was 41.
 
 

Activities undertaken during the training:

  • Topics like ‘Marriages’, ‘Divorce’, ‘Khums’, ‘Wudhu’, and ‘Salaat’ were discussed under the Islamic Religious Education (IRE) sessions.
  • Issues pertaining types of businesses, Profit & Loss in a business, cash control, SWOT analysis and the 6 P’s of Marketing were taught through interactive discussions, role plays, case studies and storytelling.
  • Work Plan of each group was set up at the end of the workshop

Achievements:

  • The groups understood how to start a businesses and how it should be managed so as for it to be successful.
  • Combining the training proved to be a good initiative as the members learnt a lot from each other during intervals.
  • IRE sessions opened members’ eyes and the groups learnt a lot more that they were not aware of.

“Good habits formed at youth make all the difference.”

The Mission has been holding Vacation camps for Madressah since 2013. These camps enhance the students with spiritual and moral upbringing. The students also benefit with religious knowledge and general knowledge on the emerging issues that affects the youth. This also helps them to develop skills in communication, leadership, dua recitations and socially interact with students from various regions.

The Mission in December this year held a similar camp at the Mission’s Jaffery Centre, Macknon Road. This was the Mission’s first centre initiated in 1972. The camp was scheduled from 25th November to 9th December 2014. Some of the topics that were included in this year’s camp were; Women in Islam, Rights of Teenagers, Drug Abuse & Affects, HIV/AIDS, Prophethood, Imamate, Masails, Ghadir, Sakifa and other topics.

On 26th October 2014, as Muslims across the globe observed the holy month of Muharram, the mission commemorated this month by mourning on the events of Kerbala. Various programs were conducted in all BMMK 15 centres and in Mombasa for the first ten days of the month.
