Open forum, an initiative that Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya embarked on last year to deliberate on issues affecting the locals in the various rural villages that the mission operates in.

bmmk_forum_2Key among them is; declining unity amongst Muslims, insecurity, educational and leadership challenges among others.

On 14th April 2013, an Open Forum was organized at Ahlul Kisaa Centre, Kichakamkwaju in South Coast region of Kenya. The Mission invited leaders, local scholars and followers of various sects across the Muslim domain to talk about the message from the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W) on how to overcome these challenges. 18 madaaris from across the region participated in this forum.

The program began with the recitation of the Holy Qur'an and qasidas. This was followed by lectures by various speakers.

bmmk_forum_3Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hirbae, a local scholar, dwelt on the issue of Drug Abuse and the Youth. Sheikh Hirbae defined drug abuse from the Islamic perspective quoting a verse on the same. He further, explained the dangers of drug abuse here on earth and in the hereafter.

On the other hand, Ustadh Aidarus Athman talked about peace and peaceful co-existence. He began by interpreting the Muslim greetings which translates to "may peace be upon you." He went on to explain that the name of our religion is Islam which means 'peace.'  Ustadh Aidarus concluded by calling upon mu'mineen to be the agents of peace.

bmmk_forum_4Ustadh Musa Shali, a local scholar from Madrasah Amirul Mu'mineen, Matuga, deliberated on the importance of Faith and Ikhlas - believing in the Oneness of Allah (S.W.T). He challenged Muslims across the globe to nurture the faith, saying that most challenges can easily be overcome through believing in the Oneness of Allah (S.W.T).

This program has received commendation from the locals who greatly appreciated the forum.

At the end of the program Ustadh Twamim Salim, Muallim In Charge from BMMK presented a vote of thanks which was followed by recitation of a Dua'a by Sheikh Ramadhan Ngwame.

Comments:

"I would like to thank the mission for organizing this forum for us. I have personally learnt a lot from it and I want to believe that all those who participated have benefited likewise. These kinds of forums should be encouraged."
