MWASAFU Centre Opening Ceremony - 2012


Sunday July 1st 2012 was a memorable day, witnessing yet another milestone for the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya at the opening ceremony of the Imam Baqir Centre in Mwatate District was performed with jubilation.

mwasafu_2Imam Baqir Centre was established in the year 1984 with a total of 53 Shia families, 58 students in Pre-Primary class and 43 students in the Madressah class. The Mwasafu Project involved the construction of a Masjid, four new classrooms, a staff quarter for Imam of the Masjid and common pit latrines.

This project was jointly sponsored by the World Federation of KSI Muslim Communities, the Federation of KSI Jamaats of Africa and several other donors who wished to remain anonymous.

A traditional warm welcome was given to the guests. A large number of community members including women and children gathered for the function.


Among the guests were, Al Haj Anwarali Dharamsi - Chairman of The Federation of KSI Jamaats of Africa, accompanied by Al Haj Aunali Khalfan - Hon. Secretary, Al Haj Shabbir Somji - Chairman of Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania, Al Haj Sultan Molu - AFED Kenyan Trustee, Al Haj Gulamabbas Khaku - AFED Councillor and Al Haj Ahmed Jaffer - BMMK Trustee and the several officials from KSI Jamaat of Mombasa and Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya. The local community leaders present included Mr. Bollisio – Personal Secretary of the Member of Parliament of Mwatate Area, Mr. Boniface Mwamburi – Area Councillor, Area Sub Chief and Sub Chief of Mackinon Road and several other dignitaries also graced the Opening Ceremony.

mwasafu_4The program began with recitation from the Holy Qur'an, the visitors were then welcomed by the Imam of Masjid Ustad Hussein Ngao who addressed the community and visitors by giving a brief history of the local communities, the challenges encountered in the village and the success of Tableegh in the area.

"It is with great anticipation that this centre's resources are well utilized, the local community will surely benefit from a generation of young men and women who will uphold morality and good leadership." Al Haj Anwarali Dharamsi (Chairman of AFED)

The programme included recitation of Hadith and Qasidas by students of the Imam Baqir Madressah. After which, BMMK Chairman Al Haj Abbas Nasser appealed to the local community to take education with utmost seriousness so that the children may attain professional qualifications to help their families and serve the Nation as good citizens in various positions.

He quoted the saying from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.w) 'seeking of knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim man and woman.'

Maulana Sayyid Sarkar Abidi in his short speech congratulated AFED and BMMK and commended the vision and the leadership.

He stated: "You have done a great job. Your contribution in spreading Islam according to teachings of Ahlul Bayt (a.s) all over the world and especially in East Africa. I would like to tell you that I'm touched and find myself to have done nothing so far to Islam. I am very much impressed by your efforts"


The Chief Guest – Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi performed the opening of the Masjid followed by Zohrain prayers. The visitors later viewed stalls set up by members from different Women Groups displaying commodities from their small-scale business projects under the BMMK Economic Upliftment Programme.

The visitors also viewed the old classrooms that are now converted into Tailoring School. Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi spoke to the women from Economic Upliftment Project Groups: "On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to congratulate your women groups for your endless efforts in these economic activities and we are delighted to witness your hard work. We wish you all success and baraka"

Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Cirago Building Contractors Ltd, Br. Ammar Menza Muruu and Br. Mohamed Ansari for their cooperation, good support and hard work in the construction of the Masjid, Classrooms and the Mu'allim house. The ceremony ended with Dua and Lunch.

A token of appreciation was awarded by Ust Yusuf Makau an active community member to Alhaj Anwarali.


"This is God's blessings and we are grateful for these new premises because our centre started very long time ago, initially it was a grass thatched huts. We are grateful to BMMK to have given us this gift."

"I am indeed grateful as a person to BMMK and whoever contributed to the success of these facilities. My challenge now goes to the Madrasah students to exert more effort in their lessons."
